Pilot program
launched, providing dental exams and sealants at two Providence
elementary schools. Pediatric Dental Center at St. Joseph
Hospital for Specialty Care opens with three operatories |

Three-year funding provided to St. Joseph
Hospital for the Providence Smiles program by the Rhode
Island Foundation, The Robert Wood Johnson (RWJ) Foundation,
the Health and Education Leadership for Providence (HELP)
Coalition, the Providence School Department and the
Rhode Island Departments of Health and Human Services

Dental Center expands from four operatories to six |

Kane joins the Pediatric Dental Center as dental director |

Providence/Pawtucket
Smiles programs reaches out to more than 8,100 students
in these two communities |

In
March, another full-time dentist is hired and the Pediatric
Dental Center is on target to provide more than 8,000
patient visits |

Hospital announces
creation f state's first residency program in Pediatric
Dentistry in conjunction with Lutheran Medical Center,
Brooklyn, NY. First two residents join program |

2004 . . . |
A satellite pediatric
dental center is established at the hospital's existing
community health center in Pawtucket, RI, to address unmet
need for dental services. Two new operatories are opened
with initial federal funding provided with assistance
from US Congressman Patrick Kennedy |

2005 . . . |
A ninth operatory
is opened at the dental center at St. Joseph Hospital,
funded in part by a grant from Tom's of Maine. Four more
pediatric dental residents join the program via Lutheran
Medical Center, bringing the total to 7 active residents
at St. Joseph annually |

2006 . . . |
A third operatory
is added to the Fatima health Center in Pawtucket, thanks
in part to federal funding secured by Congressman Patrick
Kennedy. Plans are announced to add two more operatories
(10th & 11th) at St. Joseph Hospital as a result of
a lead gift from Delta Dental of RI |
